Treats?
Index by lwnash
On numerous occasions, I have been asked to bring in treats for parties/events. What are some good ideas for healthy treats for kids and grown-ups alike?

Funny you should ask - there was an interesting article in the Times today that discussed the snacking cluture that our kids are growing up in and how the author never seems to see a bag of carrots being pulled out at snack time. Check it out:

I know it's boring and soemwhat cliche, but parents and kids alike can enjoy cheese and crackers. You don't have to bake something filled with sugar to please a crowd.

I have heard of people substituting applesauce, shredded carrots, and the like into desserts like cupcakes but I don't know of any recipes - does anyone have one?

Sushi is a great one for kids and for parents - veggie sushi for kids and fish sushi for parents and more adventurous eaters

home made sweet breads - such as zucchini, banana, strawberry, etc are great. My favorite item to bring is spinach dip with fresh veggies and crackers.
