Ozoni Soup Like

Description

We have a family tradition of cleaning the house for the new year and making Ozoni soup on New Year's morning. This is the first meal of the day. In Japan, eating this soup is an important tradition as a family. It symbolizes longevity, sticking together as a family, prosperity, and good health. There are different recipes and the ingredients vary slightly. But mochi is the star ingredient found in all. It is absolutely delicious-my husband is the most amazing chef!

Ingredients

Mochi
Mizuna
Shiitake Mushrooms
Carrots
Lotus Root
Oysters (only in my husband's bowl)
Seaweed knots (yes we tie each knot)
Chicken (a whole organic chicken)

Instructions

Make your own chicken broth or use store bought. Clean and chop all of your veggies. Boil the seaweed strips and once they cool you can cut and tie them. Seperate the chicken stock into 2 pots. In one pot add your veggies and cook until slightly tender. In the second pot get the chicken stock to a boil and add the mochi only for a few minutes until it softens. Ladel the mochi out into your serving bowl with the chicken broth and veggies. You can add strips of chicken as well.
